The Bayfield and Chequamagon Bay arts scene is once again providing opportunity for great entertainment in the next two weeks. Stagenorth, a sweet community theater located in Washburn, WI, is opening tonight with a production of “The Diary of Anne Frank” We had the chance to attend their last dress rehersal last evening and were blown away.
The story is clearly a wrenching one, moving all of us to think deeply about human history. This production has successfully taken this emotional tale, woven in an incredible set (designed by our local buddy, Bob Holton), great local actors and fantastic production. Dress rehersals are always a bit rough – yes, that last chance to work out the kinks. But I was taken in immediately and felt a part of this small group of people struggling to survive intolerable circumstances.
Now I need to add a disclaimer. Our daughter, Kristen, is part of the cast. She plays Miep Gies, one of a small group that hid eight Jews from the Nazis for slightly more than two years, an act which could have cost her her life. And when the Gestapo finally discovered the eight, it was Meep who managed to preserve the writings of the youngest of the eight- Anne Frank. So clearly, I am biased.
For those visiting Pinehurst Inn and Bayfield in the next two weeks, consider this wonderful production. You’ll be glad you did.

The Bayfield, Wisconsin area is well known for the local artisans – this has become a great destination for creative souls seeking a place that fosters creativity. Potters, painters, writers, weavers and more live and work throughout this area.

The studio and gallery were started by Bob Eckels, a trained painter and sculptor who dedicated himself to ceramics. Bob was hired in the 1950
