All About the Bayfield Winter Festival

History of Winterfest

Back in 2006, the local Recreation Center hosted the very first Bayfield Winter Festival (called Manypenny Madness at the time) as a fundraiser.  This initial event consisted of games, sledding, and a Polar Plunge. Today, the event is much larger! There are activities that take place all over Bayfield, and visitors from all over Wisconsin and the country come to participate.

What to Do at Winterfest

When you arrive at Winterfest, there’s so many things to do and see, you may not know where to begin!  Here are some of the awesome activities this annual festival has to offer.

Swing into Spring: Get your groove on with this fun dance party to welcome the new spring season. At Room 2 Groove, there’s Latin, Hip Hop, Rock, Soul, and more great musical genres to boogie down to!

Winter Royalty: A brand new tradition this year, the Winter Royalty honors four people who help encourage fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Only to the Bayfield and Ashwabay area can be nominated, and they’re crowned at the Swing into Spring dance party. Learn about the local residents here and support healthy lifestyles by attending yourself!

Polar Plunge: Brace yourself for this activity!  The Polar Plunge is a tradition that locals look forward to every year.  You can do a solo plunge or sign up with some friends to plunge as a team.  (Most people like to dress up in costumes to add some amusing flair to the event!)  Jump through a hole in the ice into the frigid waters of Lake Superior to be a part of this intrepid activity; you can even raise money for a local organization to receive some free prizes!

Other events that are happening throughout this weekend festival include live music, a skijoring race, and a fun kids-only night out. You can’t miss it!
